Health and Hygiene Promotion

Each year CWON volunteers spend 3 weeks undertaking hygiene training and health promotion in rural villages around the Chitwan region. Important data is also gathered and is being used to determine the best methods to help the villages.

The pinnacle of the volunteers stay in Chitwan is a one-day health camp in which our team assists local health professionals to provide medical care to hundreds of people who would otherwise not be able to afford treatment.

Serious medical problems identified in the health camp are referred on to specialists at local hospitals. The volunteers are also involved in this follow-up which includes assisting patients during their time at the hospitals and conferring with local doctors and CWON staff on the best course of action for the patients.

Female nursing student volunteers also participate in women’s health forums. The objective of these sessions is to identify the major issues facing women in rural Nepal and to share knowledge that may help to overcome some of these problems.
