CWON is committed to follow and promote the Sphere Standards where ever possible. All CWON staff and volunteers are required to undergo the Sphere training program.
The Sphere Handbook is one of the most widely known and internationally recognised sets of common principles and universal minimum standards for the delivery of quality humanitarian response. The handbook is independent and developed in consultation with leading humanitarian actors. For this reason, it is widely accepted and utilised in the field.
The Sphere Handbook promotes humanitarian action and response that upholds the dignity of, and protects, beneficiaries. It encourages beneficiary consultation and engagement.
The minimum standards cover four primary life-saving areas of humanitarian aid: water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion; food security and nutrition; shelter, settlement and non-food items; and health action.
